To update the firmware and software on a Proxy reader, you will need to use the Proxy Device Manager app and be close enough to the reader for the reader and your phone to interact with each other.
Please note that if your Proxy reader is connected to a wi-fi network, it will update itself automatically when new software or firmware is detected.
iOS PDM - Auto Update
1. Sign into the PDM app with your Proxy Admin email account that you use for the Proxy Dashboard.
2. Click on the red cog icon in the top left corner of the screen. This will take you to the Settings menu.
3. Toggle the Auto Update Software feature on.
4. Now every time you're near a Proxy reader that requires a new software, the PDM app will automatically update it via Bluetooth. This feature also works if your iPhone is locked and in your pocket - having the app open on the screen is not necessary. However, the PDM app does need to be running in the background on your iPhone and your Bluetooth must be on.
iOS PDM - Manual Update
1. Sign into the PDM app with your Proxy Admin email account that you use for the Proxy Dashboard.
2. When near the reader, click on it as it displays in the Devices Nearby screen.
3. Click on the "Update Firmware/Software to x.xx.x.xxxx" tab you will see at the top of the screen just under the reader name.
4. Wait as the update uploads via your phone Bluetooth. For best results, keep your phone very close to the Proxy reader and don't close the PDM app.
Android PDM
1. Sign into the PDM app with your Proxy Admin email account that you use for the Proxy Dashboard.
2. Select the card of the Org to which the reader you want to update belongs.
3. Select the Proxy reader you wish to update. If there are multiple readers nearby, you can update them simultaneously, but you will have to kick them off one at a time. You will see an orange "Update" symbol on the card indicating that an update is available for the reader.
4. Click on the "Software" tab.
5. Select the update type. In order to update via Wi-Fi, which is the faster method, you must first configure the Wi-Fi credentials for the reader (find out how in our article here). If you choose to update via Bluetooth, make sure that the phone is close to the Reader during the update process.
6. Once the update has gone through, the reader will reboot itself. To finalize the process, click the "Done" button.
